What Is the Difference Between an Analog vs. Digital Pressure Gauge?

Analog and digital pressure gauges both use units of force for measurement but have mechanical differences that should be considered before selecting a gauge for your pressure instrumentation system.

Analog pressure gauges have a needle that is calibrated to respond to fluctuations that occur within a specified parameter. They are often installed to have direct contact with a liquid and provide readings based on changes in pressure. The pressure reading is indicated by the needle pointing to a specific reading on the gauge. Analog pressure gauges are best for operating conditions where there is minimal vibration to ensure accuracy and require adequate lighting to read the gauge.

Digital pressure gauges are an electronic form of pressure instrumentation that provide a higher level of versatility and precision and can display readings using different formats. They can also be used with multiple instrumentation pressure units, eliminating the need for separate pressure gauges.  Digital pressure gauges should be considered if the process changes quickly and can be back lit for use in dark locations.
